Rush Limbaugh has long been a thorn in the side of liberals, but now, because of him, some Democratic politicians don't even want to join with a local radio station to broadcast hurricane information.
Radio station WIOD, AM 610, has been the official channel for emergency information from Broward County government for the past year. The County Commission, all Democrats, balked at renewing the deal Tuesday, unable to stomach the station also being home to Limbaugh's talk show.
Commissioner Stacy Ritter said she did not want to support a station that's out of step with area politics. Ritter, a Democratic stalwart in the state Legislature before being elected to county office, cited talk shows hosted by Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and WIOD's partnership with Fox News.
The deal with WIOD would ensure that news conferences are broadcast start to finish live from the county Emergency Operations Center in Plantation. Emergency managers became concerned during hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 that radio and television stations preempted their announcements in favor of news out of Miami

blows !”
Very well put!
The airways are for the people we decide. Communism lives.
Maybe we can give them a new nickname, like “Broward’s Cowards”. (Although other less polite ones come to mind)
That’s right, comrade. We’ll recognize no opinion other than that of the Commissar.
Liberalism is a mental disease.
Liberalism is a mental disorder for those who have a mental disease.
I agree with you 100%. I lived there for 1 year and left for the same reasons.
Stacy has a bright future as a future commissar of the nanny state. There are some exceptions but by and large I vote against any woman in politics or up for a judgeship. They are worse idiots than the run of the mill male hacks
Stacy level of integrity is only sufficient enough to be running a kindergarten. Of course this budding commissar is a lawyer——>>>
State Representative Stacy Ritter was born in Washington D.C. and moved to Broward County in 1974. She is a graduate of Piper High School in Sunrise, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL and her Juris Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern College of Law.
Dear Ms. Ritter, I am writing to you all the way from Idaho after reading the Sun-Sentinel piece regarding the county's use of radio stations for storm warnings. I would say I am amazed that a public official would put politics before the public's safety but this is not new for the "free-thinking, tolerant" liberals like yourself.
Do your job and select the radio station that will best serve the public. You're an embarrassment.
Excellent!
AB-SO-LOOT-LEEEE correct.
I live smack dab in the middle of it (Broward county), and I find NO fault with your statement. I moved here permanently in 1964 and it was a wonderful place. My parents had moved here in 1948 and it was even better.
Now? I am searching for a civilized place to live.
Pity.
They have forgotten a golden rule...Politics have no place after a disaster.
Be sure to pronounce schlub properly. Rush Limbaugh blows it every time. The “sch” is pronounced as a “j” with a little bit of “sch” thrown in
If the station is so out of touch with the political thought in Broward County, I wonder how the radio station gets any listeners. The manager must be a real nincompoop. He should probably consider Air America and CNN
Great!
And I always have to wonder how many were actually born there? Or have even lived there longer than a few years. They bring their failed northeast attitudes and spread the infection.
You are missing the point. We have a station that does 24 hour hurricane coverage which is nice when you are out of lights.I can assure you, as I listened to this station when without power for days for two different storms, I would listen no matter who they carried otherwise. They won’t be on during a storm! duh
I thought THAT golden rule was thrown out after Katrina.
Pure Bulls$(^t.
During hurricanes Jeanne, Francis & Wilma, all TV and radio was on generator power, all live feed programs were suspended and local DJ’s gave power up-dates, road closures, water distribution locations, explained looter shooter laws, aired call ins from people thanking them as their only lifeline and isssued emergency information.
When you have nothing but a battery operated radio to keep in touch with the world you don’t care if its a pubbie or rat station as long as it’s a voice.
So basically these clown politicians want to straighten out that little non-problem before anyone notices it’s never been a problem.
AM radio down here is dominated by Spanish/Creole channels which does no good to us who don’t speak anything but English and needs news/hurricane information.
Typical of a liberal, would rather people be kept in the dark, even via government intervention, then possibly hear an opinion that contradicts theirs.
