Why, are we planning to colonize the moon? Mars?

Why not?

Because it costs too much and there seems to be little benefit.

“Because it costs too much and there seems to be little benefit.”

Left-wing hippie freaks were saying the same thing in the 60s.

I find it amazing the way history repeats itself.

We don't know the benefit but we can guess at the costs. We do know that the budget for the entire year for NASA was equal to what the President initially promised to 'fight' AIDS in Africa...said 'aid' having far surpassed that number now.

China has announced their intention for a manned Mars mission. The benefits are long-term, and include asteriod mining (China did not sign the UN non-commercialization of space treaty like we did).

We really won’t know the benefits until we get there.

We’re gonna need a contingency plan to life on earth, unless we wanna just sit around waiting for doomsday. We definitely need to stay focused and keep exploring, and figure out how to live elsewhere. It may take 500 years, but we need to do it. It’s destiny.
