White House Press Release:

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
June 12, 2007

President Bush Attends Senate Republican Policy Committee Meeting at U.S. Capitol
United States Capitol

     Fact sheet In Focus: Immigration

1:54 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: I just had a good exchange with my fellow Republicans. We talked about a lot of issues. I briefed them on my trip to Europe. We talked about -- they were very interested in the Ahtisaari plan for Kosovo. They were interested in my conversations with Vladimir Putin on missile defense. We talked about the energy bill. We talked about the appropriations process, and we talked about immigration.

Some members in there believe that we need to move a comprehensive bill, some don't, I understand that. This is a highly emotional issue, but those of us standing here believe now is the time to move a comprehensive bill that enforces our borders and has good workplace enforcement, that doesn't grant automatic citizenship, that addresses this problem in a comprehensive way.

I would hope that the Senate Majority Leader has that same sense of desire to move the product that I do, or the bill that I do and these senators do, because now is the time to get it done. It's going to take a lot of hard work, a lot of effort. We've got to convince the American people that this bill is the best way to enforce our border. I believe without the bill that it's going to be harder to enforce the border. The status quo was unacceptable. I want to thank those senators on both sides of the aisle who understand the time is now to move a comprehensive piece of legislation. The White House will stay engaged.

Thank you very much.

END 1:56 P.M. EDT

Bush comes all the way to the Hill,

and Reid publicly states he won’t do anything to turn any of the 11 pro-American Democrats.

“Now’s the time to get it done. It’s going to take a lot of hard work, a lot of effort.”

His eloquence is mind-boggling, almost Churchillian. What a man, this George W. Bush is! Wow!

Notice El Presidante never visited Capitol Hill to get that bill passed.

Didn't need to. Dems folded.

This one will not move without a Hill trip.

I once thought GW was misguided on this issue, but I’ve finally realized that his intention has always been to surrender American sovereignty for the sake of international corporate interests... and he must be stopped

Your post is the reason this bill is phony. Its really quite simple, enforce the borders and build the fence. Pass the bill, set to work and finish the job in a year or two.

Deal with the current illegals by mandating a nationwide non citizen immigrant card for all immigrants. Give them 1 year to comply after that start fining employers and deporting those who do not comply.

Set up an Ellis Island of the Southwest in Arizona or New Mexico to deal with entry from Mexico.

There won’t be any bacon left to take home for the American people when this bill is passed.

Q-—You know when Bush is lying?

A-—Whenever he talks about securing our borders and enforcing our sovereignty.

my letter to W

No new Amnesties please. In 1986 we the American people were promised border security and an end to illegal immigration. Now the same crowd is back asking for another amnesty and making the same unkept promises. How stupid do you think we are? No more amnesties, border enforcement now.

Bush is going way to far this time. People aren’t stupid and to continue to infer they are is not going to work.

Build the fence, enforce existing law, FIRST — No comprehensive anything is needed to do that.

You are dead right about the hostage situation, it's getting ridiculous to keep harping on this falsehood.

During a rare meeting on Capitol Hill, President Bush pushed lawmakers Tuesday to move forward on immigration legislation that he said enforces U.S. borders and workplaces.

Wrong. Bills enforce nothing. Laws enforce nothing. It is the Executive branch of the government that enforces the law, that enforces the border.

"I think the president understands that this is really our last best hope to get legislation through, that we just cannot sit by and do nothing."

Why not? You've already been sitting by and doing nothing for 20 years or more.

We have laws for our border. Get out there and enforce them. We have laws against hiring illegal aliens. Get out there and enforce them. We have laws against people overstaying their visas. Get out there and enforce them.

The last thing we need is a law that creates loopholes as big as a truck for people to drive through whose enforcement responsibilities will be left to an Executive that won't enforce the ones we have. The parts of the law that favors immigration will be pursued in court to the maximum. The parts that disfavor it will die from lack of enforcement. No thanks.

This bears repeating again. It explains his actions superbly...

Representatives from the three governments regularly consult on their agenda and discuss recommendations from non-governmental organizations and the private sector, including through such documents as the one published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR)"Creating a North American Community" whose views represent the private sector.

Let's make a deal...
