Evolution is religion, not science, and government funding of it is a violation of the first ammendment. So when the creationist movement spent a decade or two pushing the "equal time for 'creation science' with 'evolution science'" agenda; that was just an act of hypocrisy and cynicism? They knew all the time that neither were "science"?

(I don't worry about the war turning into "Vietnam" in Iraq; I worry about it doing so in Congress.)

They knew all the time that neither were "science"? To a great extent, probably so. Some of what they have pushed is real scientific endeavor, but more was philosophical.
