Despite the observation of back bencher Newt Gingrich, it is a fact that identity theft is a growing concern. Or perhaps corporations are wasting huge amounts of money on protecting their computer systems from hacking and other types of corporate theft. Just one example of Newt’s self serving short sightedness. The bill provides for the set up of a verification process specific to immigration and on the scale needed for that purpose. If employers are going to be held accountable, they must be given the tools to do their part in enforcing compliance with govt regulations. Continue to be as stubborn as your side claims Pres Bush to be and nothing will be done until the RATS get their chance to throw open the borders and give you more of what you do not want. What you deem inconsequential to immigration happens to be of concern to many of the legislators in both parties, as well as voters in both parties. This is not the best bill, but Republicans are no longer in the majority and must compromise more than they might want. Hopefully, if brought back up the bill will be amended to address the concerns which the electorate has.

“Despite the observation of back bencher Newt Gingrich, it is a fact that identity theft is a growing concern.”
(A) He’s a former majority leader (B) our lack of immigration law enforcement is the #1 *Cause* of identity theft! Jeeez!

” Or perhaps corporations are wasting huge amounts of money on protecting their computer systems from hacking and other types of corporate theft.”
Yes, and one wonders why if Corporations can do it, why can’t our Government. the claims that we can
“ Just one example of Newt’s self serving short sightedness.”

Or maybe just your self-delusion. We conservatives understand that private enterprise often runs rings around Govt bureaucracies. The fact that Citibank can give out 50 million credit cards and keep track of the 50 million owners of same, while the Federal Govt apparently is clueless about the 12+ million illegal immigrants in our midst ... it tells most of us conservatives that Govt is screwed up.

” The bill provides for the set up of a verification process specific to immigration and on the scale needed for that purpose.”

Fascinating. And what, prey tell, is the bizarre and phony logic that requires us to sign on to a $2.5 trillion wasteful, unAmerican and anti-rule-of-law amnesty/legalization in order to get this minor improvement in immigration law enforcement? We *can* do better.

” If employers are going to be held accountable, they must be given the tools to do their part in enforcing compliance with govt regulations.”

I agree, and that is why I support the ‘enforcement’ first approach that gives top priority to such concerns. We saw in 1986 how “enforcement + amnesty” became a sham, and this is amnestyII the sequel. we wont get fooled again.

“Continue to be as stubborn as your side claims Pres Bush to be and nothing will be done until the RATS get their chance to throw open the borders and give you more of what you do not want.”

In the cloture vote, 10 Democrats joined Republicans in voting “NO”. If Republicans are united in the Senate, they would stop bad bills. ... And you cant get much worse in 2 years than what the Democrats would produce today...

” What you deem inconsequential to immigration happens to be of concern to many of the legislators in both parties, as well as voters in both parties.”

The cheap labor lobbies and the Reconquista Mecha LaRaza racists have a different agenda than I do. But its not the agenda of the American citizens so I wouldnt worry. 2to1 margins Americans wants law-and-order in immigration and borders secured.

” This is not the best bill,”

... no, it’s the worst bill produced by any Congress in my entire lifetime. I kid you not. this is the WORST BILL EVER. It will wreck havoc on America and be a disaster for us on many levels.

” ... but Republicans are no longer in the majority and must compromise more than they might want. Hopefully, if brought back up the bill will be amended to address the concerns which the electorate has.”

Really. The #1 reason for opposition is the flawed amnesty provision. Take it out and then you can talk about ‘compromise’. H*** no to amnesty/legalization, that is beyond unacceptable and a very bad idea. The idea that we should compromise with such levels of stupid and evil in bills is an absurdity. But a further absurdity is that Bush will sign any piece of cr*p bill on immigration anyway.

IT IS VITAL THAT BUSH NEVER SIGNS A COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION BILL. It will doom America and will doom the GOP party worse than watergate if he does. We Lemmings jumped off the cliff for NCLB and Medicare drug program, and it ‘earned’ us a larger Govt which harmed the GOP image for voters. Immigration will doom us far worse than anything else Bush has done. A permanent GOP minority for a generation thanks to a dangerous and foolish amnesty.
