I always thought President Bush was a nice man and a good president. Its just such a shock to find out he is neither. He betrayed us and he betrayed the troops. A lot of the things he has done or hasn’t done over the years start to make sense now. Like his refusal to let the troops fight this war as they are trained to, his refusal to take on the dems and the media, his refusal to defend the border agents and Scooter Libbey and our troops who get prosecuted for fighting this war, his signing of CFR, and a whole host of other things.
I’m sort of in the same boat.
Why did this man run for office? Iraq was certainly part of it, but not the whole thing.
The disallusionment leaves me feeling as if I have been physically kicked in the stomach. I supported and fought for Bush with every fiber of my being against all around me since 9-11. I have lost close friends that were dear to me in my myopic support of that man.
Frankly, I felt Bush to be a crummy governor and wasn’t thrilled with voting for him in 2000. I knew him to be vindictive in nature and told my family and friends that when I voted for him, I was afraid I had just consigned my boys to war in Iraq within a year. Then Algore refused to concede and 9-11 followed less than a year later. All my misgivings went right out the window. I got caught up in a patriotic fervor and painted a picture of Bush to be completely different than what I knew him to be when he was Gov. I can’t even blame him. I can only blame myself for doing what many cuckolded women do — closing my eyes, denying, and continuing to support a man that doesn’t nor every existed. I feel sick and foolish, but look forward to the next election when a true conservative walks up the Whitehouse steps and Bush walks down them for the last time.
With the above said, unless my local representative in the House votes for this shamnesty bill if it, Heaven forbid, gets there, I can still pull the straight Republican lever the next election. I am grateful to Alexander and Corker for not taking that away from me, at least.
Let’s keep working to sink this bill and get a man worthy of representing us in the Whitehouse that will fight to win this war at home and abroad keeping our nation sovereign.
