“VThere are no prospects for increased border enforcement.”
Why not? Maybe the anger of the people will wake up Washington DC to shake a stick on building the fence.
I have little hope the Bush admin will try, but if history is a guide, he will at least attempt to *look* like he is trying to get some traction back on the issue...
LET THEM BUILD 200 MILES OF FENCE *FIRST* BEFORE ANY NEW BILL IS CONSIDER AND THEN COME BACK TO THIS BILL TO *PROVE* THEY ARE SERIOUS.
That will do 10 times more for border security than anything else.
You’re on the wrong site.
A great victory for the Republic!
Sorry, the rule of law says we need near 800 miles of fence in designated areas.
It’s the law!
Better set your sights on the law of the sea treaty. They’ll pass that one to spite us, and it’s anti US sovereignty in it’s own way.
CHUCK HAGEL...exposed and hanging in the wind.
Why the “Sean Hannity (yeah I know)” comment? I dropped by and he made a point I’ve been thinking about throughout the whole Shamensty discussion in the Senate.
He said how come no discussion about the cost to entitlements?
Aren’t the liberals/leftists suppose to be the great protectors of entitlements?
He was dead on target. From what I saw not even an hour of discussion was part of the Shamnesty debate in the Senate.
Shamnesty 7? Somebody else mentioned somewhere on this thread “Lindsey Grahamnesty” which should do the trick to sink his boat. LOL
“Maybe we are missing something.”
Theodore R. to come and tell us it is really a defeat???
Seriously, TR: This is a big victory - for now.
1. Conservatives have stood athwart history and stopped it. Awesome! Now we needed help from Dem-wits, *but* consider that this bill, even with 4 few Republicans, and even if more conservative (relatively) than last years awful CIRA (but basically same noxious deal)... consider that it got fewer votes.
2. Consider that we were contemplating Texas becoming Cali by 2015.... that is pushed back to 2030 or later, when the anchor babies come of age, or maybe never ... if we never get amnesty by other means.
3. Consider that the GOP caucus now knows *clearly* what side the base is on. We will not IMHO get a Democrat immigration bill in 2009 that would be worse than this ... Now there may well be enough Democrat votes for a horrible noxious amnesty only bill, but the Senate will filibuster a Democrat only bill. The only hope for this shamnesty was the ‘grand bargain’. It’s a turkey, or rather a fish... the longer the fish is on the dock for sale, the worse it smells.
So...
4. Consider that this was just 2 weeks of outrage,
and if sustained could go even further...
The next step is this: GET WASHINGTON TO BUILD THE DAMN FENCE.
Step after that is to make AMNESTY A NON-STARTER.
Step after that is to get back to real reform, of enforcement and immigration visas.
Yeah, I don’t understand it, either.
It remains to be seen if he can come around.
I always thought President Bush was a nice man and a good president. Its just such a shock to find out he is neither. He betrayed us and he betrayed the troops. A lot of the things he has done or hasn’t done over the years start to make sense now. Like his refusal to let the troops fight this war as they are trained to, his refusal to take on the dems and the media, his refusal to defend the border agents and Scooter Libbey and our troops who get prosecuted for fighting this war, his signing of CFR, and a whole host of other things.
Enjoy the buzz baby, enjoy the buzz. This proved our nation is not lost... yet.
Hannity went after Bush, tonight. I nearly passed out in my chair when I heard him. I didn’t think he’d ever disagree with Bush on anything. That shows you just how bad this bill is.
I hardly look at FOX anymore, but it would have been nice to see him frustrated. He has surely left us frustrated over the years. I wonder if anyone around McCain tells him the cold truth — he will NOT get the Republican nomination. He has to be delusional to think he has any chance.
I’m sort of in the same boat.
Why did this man run for office? Iraq was certainly part of it, but not the whole thing.
Perhaps someone more literate, web-wise, could provide a link.
