Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network, and one of the country's foremost leaders for civil rights, is blasting the justice system for what appears to be favoritism in the early release of Paris Hilton.
"Though I have nothing but empathy for Ms. Hilton whom I have met and appeared with on Saturday Night Live the night I hosted in 2003, this early release gives all of the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color. There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions that are not released.
I have served several sentences for civil rights and civil disobedience actions and I even fasted which caused health concerns to prison authorities who paid for a doctor to come see me daily rather than release me. This act smacks of the double standards that many of us raise
Developing...
That's all I had to read.
“...where the good Reverands church is located, you know, where he teaches Gods Word on Sundays ?”
God’s Word? Hey, the Rev wants to know what that’s supposed to mean...God who...?
And for all of those on this thread who think the Rev is finally right on an issue - think again - this is all about stirring class and racial hatreds. Ol’ bug-eyes knows nothing else, cares about nothing else. Same is true for Rev JJ.
Someone refresh my memory about what charges/sentence Sharpton occurred in the Tawana Brawley case.......
I remember that he totally skated for all that fraud....
She couldnt stay in jail because she couldnt eat the food? give me a break.”
Cold cereal is cold cereal no matter whose house it is served in...
So, until OJ serves his time, no one else should ever be incarcerated? Get real.
Supposedly she has a rash. Maybe they were afraid that she would spred herpes to all the others.
I believe it was George Will who said that no modern farce is complete without an appearance by Jesse Jackson.”
George Will has a keeper in that phrase, IMO.
I don’t think this favoritism is based on race, either! It seems to be based on celebrity and bucks.
Did I say that? NO! Don't be stupid, and don't make jerky posts to me like that, dope.
I agree race has nothing to do with this. It has everything to do with money. Of course the good rev wouldn’t even bring it up unless he could throw race into the mix.
OJ was found not guilty. No matter what you or I might think about that, he was found not guilty. If we start putting people that are found not guilty in jail then we might as well do away with the court system and just jail people based on accusations.
My post was factual, not stupid. Your post was jerky. End of story.
No, it’s the “Just Us Brothers”.
Is that right?
Did not know.
Thanks.
Me neither! I think some "investigative journalist" (hahah sounds funnier every time I say it) should check the bank accounts of all the folks with the authority to release Paris early for unusually large deposits.
I got 20 bucks sez cash crossed palms on this one!
Wow ... agreeing with Sharpton .... I better see if I have a fever or smth.
OJ was innconent...the glove didn’t fit hahahha
I would take that bet personally. Although this is surely a case of “one law for all, except for some rich kids”, I would be surprised if it was arranged so crudely. Probably more on the “scratch my back, ill scratch yours”.
Be on the lookout for favors paid back in 3-4 years time.
I don’t know personally if OJ was guilty or not. I dont think anyone does - heck sometimes I dont think HE knows whether he was guilty or not! The court transcripts ran to, what, 40,000 pages? I got much more interesting things to read thank you.
I do know one thing though. If he had not been the person he was - rich, famous, popular, connected - he would CERTAINLY be doing time now. Thats a very sad inditement on the Justice system.
Sharpton is right: the courts are not color-blind. However he is wrong if he thinks they favor whites. They are obviously very biased in favor of “green”.
