Interesting, I didn’t know killing the people wasn’t the norm. What about rape? Is that common?

They didn't really get into rape as part of the pillaging, although I suspect that is because so few seagoing merchant ships had any women.

If there had been a ship laden with lovely women? Well...they are, after all, pirates. Lonely, bored pirates.
