U.S. Warship Fires Warning Shots Over Vessel Boarded by Pirates Off Somali Coast

Tuesday , June 05, 2007

The U.S. Navy has fired warning shots across the bow of a Dutch ship that has been boarded by armed pirates off the coast of Somalia, FOX News has learned.

The USS Carter Hall also fired on three small boats that surrounded the commercial ship, the "Danica White," after her crew messaged for assistance after being boarded by pirates, the Navy said.

The incident began Saturday and as of Monday the Dutch ship's crew was still believed to be held at gunpoint by an unknown number of pirates who forced the vessel into Somalia's territorial waters. There have been no reports of casualties.

Let the UN rescue the Dutch. Beisdes, as soon as they smoke all the Dutch pot on board, the pirates will leave anyway.

I’ve been wondering why the navy doesn’t do anything about this growing pirate problem. Blowing 10 or 12 of these guys to Davy Jones could keep them in port for a month or two.

a French naval vessel in the area had confirmed the ship and its crew of five was hijacked but was unable to intervene because it could not enter Somali waters.

Doing the job the EU won't do. The EU bureaucracy in Brussels loves to send orders down through the chain of bureaucracy to citizens of its member states, but if the citizens of any member state need help, forget about it.

I think I like the Phillippine penalty for piracy best, “Electrocuted until you catch fire.”

Kaffee: Sherby, does the Navy still hang people from yardarms?

Lt. Sherby: I don’t think so.

Kaffee: Dave, Sherby doesn’t think the Navy hangs people from yardarms anymore.

Piracy? Here's hoping the Captain has the nads to hang them or make them walk the plank.

I would love to see just ONE of our ships do summary executions for piracy.

"On Saturday, Jorgen Folmer, a spokesman for the Danish shipping company, said a French naval vessel in the area had confirmed the ship and its crew of five was hijacked but was unable to intervene because the French vessel was unable to communicate it's surrender to the pirates."

There, that's better.
