By putting a missile base near Russia’s borders, Russia is acting as they usually do. They view it as a threat to them.

When you have been invaded by as many former “friends” as Russia has, you get a bit paranoid. But in reality, I suspect their missiles have been aimed at the US and Europe the whole time, just as our missiles can be easily aimed at them in a moments notice.
