I live in McLennan County and have never heard any controversy about his ranch staff. When they first moved to Crawford talk was that a nearby rancher was doing land and livestock management and rumor was most of their household staff had been with them for years. I don’t know if that’s still the case. The grapevine works overtime here and there would probably be gossip if anything were not above board. The Bush’s are known as considerate neighbors who contribute financially to local causes and organizations.
Ping to Crawford questions!
But--when asked if she had ever been in the country illegally, Bush didn't answer.
I live in the area not far from Crawford..I would say no he has none working for him..He has his own crew and that does not include illegals...Don’t ask me how I know this because if I told I might have to kill you!!!And that was said being funny...
From my own years in Texas, it was a rare aristocrat indeed who didn't have a few wetbacks for their high-maintenance mansions.
Believe me when I tell you there is none..He has his own crew and has for a very long time..I am not saying he has no Mexicans working at the ranch but they are very legal..ask anyone in Crawford..They all love the Bushes(well most of them)but they also feel the same about illegals as we do...
Jimmy Carter used a murderer as a nanny for Amy.
Yesterday he hinted that he's going to start calling Joe Sixpack (and Joe's son in the service, GI Joe) "bigots" for opposing this legislative monstrosity. Little Lord Lindsey of Carolina has already tested the waters.
I resent it highly.
That's my attitude--from the "Bush-bashing" right that he doesn't want in the GOP any more. This legislation, and HIS attitude, is the dealbreaker for this conservative. I'm about to go Independent.
I’m sure if he had even the slightest illegality in how his ranch was run, we would have heard it a long time ago from the dems..
You've got to be kidding me. After six years in the Presidency and winning election twice, don't you think that the democrat attack machine wouldn't have fully researched this? I'll bet James Carville personally has dosiers on every Bush employee going back decades.
I don't know if you've lived in Texas, but I lived in El Paso during the Carter administration when immigration laws were enforced--lots of nice Anglo ladies had full-time maids and nannies and yardmen. They ignored the law until their cars got impounded for transporting illegals.
Not many patricians and aristocrats resisted the temptation to be waited on and cleaned up after by cheap and humble help. And I certainly don't recall any claim by the Bushes that they "never" did such a thing--
And if such a fact came to light, it'd put the seal of doom on any amnesty effort.
Actually their house is in no way a mansion. It’s a country ranch type home, built to be “green” and local trade people who have been there say it and its furnishings are unpretentious. In my opinion you are barking up the wrong tree and would be hard pressed to find any negative opinions about them in McLennan County other than the Sheehan type nutjobs at the Peace House. Like Beth I’ve heard many personal anecdotes about the Bushes but can’t repeat them or identify the people who told me. Those active with the McLennan County GOP keep their mouths shut about contact with the Bushes. Locals have tried to protect their privacy and allow them a private home life. Anybody here who has had personal experience with the Bushes or their staff speaks highly of them.
Mamzelle, you may want to check out the liberal I would say you would hit pay dirt with the illegal employees...If you need any other information about the Bushes go to Crawford and the people there are very friendly and will not tell you a thing but the truth...which conserning Laura and George will be all good..
The problem of anyone making such a query would be the whole institution of indenturement in Texas. The reporters themselves wouldn't ask it, because they're a part of it. And then they might have to ask liberal Texans the same question.
Sort of mutual embarrassment and protection. Don't ask, don't tell.
But just somebody asking that question in public would open up a lot of debate.
Picture Ann Coulter and Tony Snow--"Do you think the Bush family, or all the Bush families, ever hired illegal help?"
Now, how in the world would Tony respond? He knows the culture, and knows he can't make a spluttering righteous denial. He also can't say, "I don't know"--because that would indicate he does not have confidence. Tony would also sweat the next question--"Have you ever hired illegals?"
It'd be a whole new way to frame the debate. And it'd be a winner for killing shamnesty.
What about McCain's domestic arrangements? Have you seen pictures of his grand palace in Arizona?
He's part of the motor behind this catastrophe of legislation. Wonder if all his help is legal? Wonder if it's always been legal?
Is there an AZ ping list?
