“China arms talks, reciprocity stalled”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “China continues to put off nuclear weapons talks with the United States that were promised by Beijing’s leader and has not matched U.S. openness in recent military exchanges, a senior Pentagon official told Congress yesterday.

“In the bilateral military relationship, we are troubled by what appears to be an unwillingness to reciprocate the openness and transparency we have shown to visiting [Chinese military] representatives,” said Richard Lawless, deputy undersecretary of defense for Asia.

Mr. Lawless, appearing before the House Armed Services Committee, said the Pentagon was encouraged by Chinese President Hu Jintao’s stated interest in talks on nuclear strategy, policy and doctrine. However, “we are concerned by an apparent reluctance on the part of the [Chinese] government to discuss transparently these important issues.””

U.S. Consulate Jerusalem issued the following Warden Message on June 13, 2007:

Interfactional clashes in the Gaza Strip have resulted in a precarious and dangerous security situation. All American citizens are urged for their safety to remain indoors. If there is shooting or explosions in your neighborhood, stand fast and move into the interior areas of your residence away from windows, using mattresses or other means of protection from shrapnel or glass shards. If there is a basement area, move to it. The risk of being caught in crossfire outdoors is great. American citizens in the Gaza Strip should depart as soon as possible but exercise caution in movement.

The deteriorating security situation in Gaza is tense and unpredictable, with the possibility of violent protests directed against American citizens and interests, and fighting between various armed factions. Any foreigner in Gaza is at risk of kidnapping and bystanders risk being caught in escalating violence.

Hamas activists: Taking over HQ is beginning of Islamic state

‘Hiding’ From Authorities
Port Arthur Man Ordered To Undergo Treatment In San Antonio

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Authorities were seeking a Port Arthur man who has been ordered by a judge to undergo treatment for tuberculosis at a San Antonio hospital.

Dr. William George, the city health authority, said Lemone R. Yowman, 32, poses a public health threat and should be confined and treated immediately.

Yowman has a drug-susceptible strain of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, a different variety than the drug-resistant strain that infected Atlanta attorney Andrew Speaker, whose TB case caused an international scare.

George told The Associated Press that Yowman’s case should be easily treatable but he’s “hiding from us.”

“Our big problem with Mr. Yowman is we want to stop him from spreading the disease to other people,” George said. “But quite fortunately, it’s the type that’s treatable by standard drugs.”

A man who answered the phone at the residence of “L. Yowman” on Wednesday night told the AP that Lemone Yowman was not there. The man acknowledged knowing Yowman, then hung up.

City health and government officials said police have sought Yowman since Friday, when state District Judge Bob Wortham of Beaumont ordered him to go to San Antonio.

The terror leaders claimed the files contain, among other information, details of CIA networks in the Middle East.

“The CIA files we seized, which include documents, CDs, taped conversations and videos, are more important than all the American weapons we obtained the last two days as we took over the traitor Fatah’s positions,” said Muhammad Abdel-El, spokesman for the Hamas-allied Popular Resistance Committees terror group.

The Committees has been accused of carrying out anti-U.S. attacks, including a 2003 bombing of an American convoy in Gaza that killed three U.S. contractors.

Hamas has the past few days taken near-complete control of the Gaza Strip, advancing on the vast majority of Fatah security buildings and positions in the northern, southern and central sections of the territory.”
