“Car Crashes Through D.C. Street Festival, Injures 35”
June 3, 2007 - 10:39am

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “WASHINGTON - A gray station wagon going 70 mph plowed through a street festival in Southeast D.C. Saturday evening, injuring 35 — seven seriously.
Of those seven, two were children under the age of 3. The driver of the car was not seriously injured.

The crash occurred at about 8 p.m. at 13th and W streets, at the Unifest Music and Food Festival, along Martin Luther King Avenue.

Unifest is an annual event sponsored by an Anacostia-based church.

D.C. police Chief Cathy Lanier says the woman driving the car, 30-year-old Tonya Bell of Oxon Hill, Md., had her 7- or 8-year-old child in the car with her.

She said a vehicle believed to be Bell’s was driving erratically and struck a police car and fled the scene about a half-hour before the crash at the festival.

WTOP’s Derek Williams was on the scene. “One witness tells me he saw officers hurl their motor [bikes] in front of the Volvo to finally stop it and arrest the woman.”

Among the injured are two police officers who pulled in front of the car and tried to stop it.

Witnesses say strollers were flung aside and one person was trapped under the car.”

Three Militants Detained in Khowst, Two in Helmand

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, June 3, 2007 – Afghan and coalition forces detained three militants in an early-morning operation today against al Qaeda militants in Khowst province.

No shots were fired, and no one was injured in the operation.

Also in the region, Afghan and coalition forces detained two militants early yesterday in an operation against Taliban forces in the Nahr Surkh district of Helmand province. In that incident, forces were fired on as they approached the compound. They returned fire and subdued the militants, securing the compound.

There were no injuries to coalition forces, but several insurgents were reportedly killed during the firefight. Forces suspected the compound of housing local Taliban fighters. All detainees will be questioned as to their involvement in militant activities, U.S. officials said.

In his 2004 interview he said that Eusi Kwayana of Ascria had influenced him in the direction of developing a certain scholarship to understand the socialist principles to go beyond situations as they appeared on the surface.

A number of Iranian detectives had even come to Guyana to help the local authorities solve the crime, but no one was ever charged.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “PORTLAND (AP) — The man accused of recruiting three other men for a plot to blow up jet fuel supply tanks and pipelines at John F. Kennedy International Airport may have an Oregon connection, according to television reports.

KGW-TV and KOIN-TV in Portland joined CNN Saturday in reporting that Russell Defreitas had been a contractor for the aviation company Evergreen EAGLE, a subsidiary of Evergreen International Aviation in McMinnville.

KGW obtained public records that indicated Defreitas worked for Evergreen from July 2000 to May 2001.”
