I’ve never voted for a 3rd party candidate, but 2008 might be the time.
I am proud to say that I cast my first presidential vote for John Schmitz of the American Independent Party in 1972 because Nixon had gone too far to the left. Since then I have voted a straight Republican ticket. I might return to my roots in 2008 for the same reason.
