Gone, Baby, Gone director Ben Affleck, who tried mightily - but unsuccessfully - to get Sen. John Kerry elected to the White House, said he expects ex-Gov. Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee in 2008.
Chatting about the upcoming presidential race on the season finale of Real Time with Bill Maher, the Cambridge homey said he thinks the GOP will end up with Romney because the ex-gov looks good, has nice hair - and the Republicans really dont have anyone else.
He says he doesnt like abortion and hes all clean-cut and he looks like a Ken doll, said Affleck who was doing a rather amusing imitation of our ex-gov during the Romney rant.
The Mormonism thing is really suspect, he added, but theyll take it at this point. I mean, who else do they have? Crazy (Rudy) Giuliani and (John) McCain whos completely insane? They dont have any other options.
Humorist P.J. ORourke, who was also on the panel, pointed out that Romney has a fundamental problem with conservatives: He was governor of Massachusetts.
Which really sent Ben off the deep end!
I hate liberals, is what hes basically now saying. Hes holding his nose saying, I wish I didnt even have to be in Massachusetts. Im sorry I was there. I hated them when I was governor. I hated Massachusetts. I was governor because I wanted to kill them all!
Added Maher: If he were a movie, hed be Say Anything.
Affleck, a lifelong Democrat who was identified as actor/activist on the show, also had some harsh words for his own party , launching an f-bomb-laden tirade against the pols who caved in on the presidents Iraq spending bill.
These (bleeping) people, he said. This is the (bleeping) problem with that. Democrats live in fear of basically being called cowards, he said.
Affleck surmised that the Demmies were afraid to demand timelines for troop withdrawal from Iraq in the spending bill because the president would slam them while they were away for the Memorial Day weekend.
While they were on vacation they were afraid of being criticized, he said. So . . . they sacrificed their core political beliefs. And they wonder why people call them (bleeping) weak.
Romneys main mouth Eric Fehrnstrom, when asked to comment about the Affleck rant, told the Track in an e-mail: I think the polite thing to say is no comment. We dont spend a lot of time thinking about what Hollywood actors are saying about the presidential campaign.
Unlike John Kerry - Bens last No. 1 presidential pick.
File Under: Ben Heard.
Disagreed. I think he really believes Romney will win (the GOP nomination). So does Letterman. Probably has something to do with the great disdain both these men have for religious Conservatives.
It's OK... let them think that. That way when Fred steps in and sweeps their rat party under the rug, they won't know what hit 'em.
What a complete cretin.
I cringe for him.
He thinks he’s all political and everyone wants to hear his opinions. hahahaha
He’s a desperate pathetic little narcissist. Pi** off back to hollywood ben, and try and make a good movie for once.
Honestly, I will never understand whyb these people get so much airtime in the US, when they’re complete airheads.
Ye...he’s a moron....and all his movies suck.
“Don’t tell anyone, but I’m meeting George Michael in the public toilet at the park @ 11:00pm. “
Has George Michael lowered is standards even more?
Affleck and Maher...what a brain trust there...
The two of them should be careful they dont overtax their tiny brains...
This is the same guy who, based basically on looks and fame, came out in 2004 saying he wanted to run for the Senate.
Then he tried to vote in a polling place near his New York hotel despite being registered in california.
Wat are the Kevin Smith days, again?
After Gigli, Afflek can’t even get a role in Ocean’s 44.
The cocktail-party class has no idea of what Fred Thompson represents. Yet.
So, it's a contest, who's further out of touch, celebrities in New York or Los Angeles who get fawned over by sycophants, or politicians in the Beltway who have the same treatment?
And who exactly gives a rat’s behind what this perso thinks? I guess somebody in Massachusetts does. Massachusetts bears watching. Big time.
I am not only watching it, I am taking it back from within.
So Ben Affleck, a talentless idiot with good looks, just called somebody a Ken Doll?
I love you Ben, you make me forget about Tacos in my tummy yummy yummy yummy give me more.
Kevin Smith is the director that made the movies Mallrats, Clerks (1 and 2), Chasing Amy, Dogma. He MADE Ben, Matt Damon, and the guy on My Name is Earl( his name escapes me). If you know who Jay and Silent Bob are, Kevin Smith is Silent Bob. All pretty liberal, but they made some funny movies. Mallrats and Clerks being my favorites.
