I tell people who listen to these stations - why not make a CD of the 20 songs they play and just listen to it over and over again in your car? No commercials that way.

I am amazed in the age of the MP3 player that classic rock stations survive. I have even witnessed people trying to call with a request for songs they would have played anyway!

Yeah, the request lines don’t actually allow you to choose a song. They just have a bunch of people leave a mesage with requests, and it is guaranteed that most of them are just requesting either the latest hit or “free bird” that was already qued up to be played.
