Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View." ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.
It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.
O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.
"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"
Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.
"Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe," Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.
According to a New York Post report, O'Donnell's chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in "The View" studios. ABC executives didn't return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.
On Thursday O'Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner's birthday. "The View" aired a taped show on Friday.
On her Web site, O'Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at "The View." Cyndi Lauper's "Sisters of Babylon" played in the background.
A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.
"When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done," she wrote. "Any more would take away."
The story is a fabrication=lie! FNS, by repeating it over and over, just help perpetuate the lie!
Yes she did
very very storngly implied “WE are the terrorist”
sorry misunderstood your post :) you are correct by the way
Post of the year! “ROFLMAO” just doesn’t cover it.
She isn't there to represent conservatives. She's there so men have something nice to look at. Sexist, but a fact of life.
Elisabeth is pregnant.
Just watched it on Youtube. It was nice to see Elisabeth stand up to Rosie. You could tell Rosie was not used to that. Rosie never did say whether or not she thought the U.S. troops were terrorists.
As all loud-mouthed bullies do, Rosie A’bominable can’t take the heat, only dish it out.
Let the fish fry commence. ;>)
I think the thing that Hasselback said that so wounded Rosie, after Rosie had complained that Elizabeth had not defended her, was "You are an adult. Defend your own insinuations."
Rosie's mother died when she was a child. Apparently her inner "wounded child" is still looking for a mother to defend her in the scary world, where there are frightening adult things like men, sex and war. This exchange was deeply primal. Elizabeth called Rosie on her weakest point.
BINGO!!
Let's see: everyone from her local gay bar, everyone from her local lesbian bar, everyone from her therapy group, everyone from her partner's therapy group, everyone from her partner's La Leche League group....
I agree; she's just messed up. And now that Elizabeth is actually pregnant, it's too much for Big Mama Rosie.
I wish celebs would stick to acting and leave the political comments to smart people. I am running out of movies to watch because the actors ticked me off.
The HUGE difference between The View before Rosie (when I used to watch the first few minutes a lot of days) and after Rosie came is:
They now have to GIVE over $100-300 worth of GIFTS to get people to be in the audience! Not just every now and then, but every single day!
I swore off ever watching again the day Rosie started and I sent prayers for Elisabeth to make it OK without my silent prayer of support for her every day against the harpies that were already there.
So, how do I know about the giveaways? Because my local news comes on right after it, so I have to put the channel on it and they give all the stuff away in the last few minutes. I *hear* it, but don’t see it.
Today, it was a $100 specialty wine cold storage tabletop unit like something from Sharper Image, plus gift certificates for $50 worth of wine and some other things!
*Think* what kind of audience that attracts! Not the wine stuff, but all the freebies! It’s pimping at its worst. And it’s always attributed as being something “Rosie” is giving them, so they applaud wildly and cheer everything she says.
Now, that’s all going to go away and Baba Wawa will be crying over the bad ratings, once the audiences are no longer enthusiastic, which makes the viewing audience more receptive to the moonbat propaganda.
I’m glad Elisabeth stood up for herself (afterwards, she said to the cameraman in the hallway “Sorry, Barbara!”) because it only gets out of hand when Wawa isn’t there giving them the evil eye. And Liz being Liz, she always apologizes.
Rosie started out saying “oh, everytime I fight with you, I have to hear *that big fat ugly lesbian Rosie did a number again on poor little sweet Christian Elisabeth.” I was thinking, “yeah, and ...?”
That’s when Elisabeth said “I’m not *poor little sweet Elisabeth* and got mad. At 4 months pregnant, it’s probably not good for her to get into a lot of rage, but it’s also *never* good to bury it. Her Mama Bear instincts came out, I do believe.
There! Once every few months, I have to talk about this junk and now I’m done for a while.
Trump lacerates not only Rosie, but Hasselbeck...saying she can't string 3 words together...his remarks on the Iraqi War when giving examples of Elizabeth's mental capacity. "She favors the war..."
This is all a game...because Donald Trump convicts himself as a total ignoramous..he insults...everybody's watching.
Geraldo even asked for clarification and Trump threw more gasoline on the fire.
Trump's not idiot.
Also, it was reported that the VIEW NEVER used split screen prior to that show.
Rosie,
If you’re hear lurking, I’d just like to say that I don’t care if you’re fat, nor if your ugly. I don’t even care if you’re a loudmouth lesbian.
What pisses me off is that you’re a liar.
Rosie’s issues go beyond her liberalism, though that is a logical consequence.
She is a self loathing angry woman mad at the world for what she can never be and takes it out on folks who are those things and whom she resents for that fact.
You could not cast a better person than lovely Hasslebeck for Rosie to despise.
Elizabeth is pretty, maternal, nice, well mannered, oozes natural femininity, has a real family , a real husband and represents values that Rosie rejects since she feels not worthy of them.
Rosie is a case of judge her by what she hates. She projects what is really eating at her from within on the rest of us....a classic liberal psycho-move btw.
I feel pity for her. Plenty of money and fame and so miserable that she attacks so viciously even folks who have defended her.
She is hardly the first fat dyke to attack a pretty heterosexual woman out of spite or on occasion unrequited lust. Dykes don’t like my wife either.
What is most troubling is how she is given a platform to act like such an ignorant bully.
darn the luck ...
