Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View." ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.

It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.

O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.

"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."

In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."

No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"

Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.

"Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe," Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.

According to a New York Post report, O'Donnell's chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in "The View" studios. ABC executives didn't return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.

On Thursday O'Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner's birthday. "The View" aired a taped show on Friday.

On her Web site, O'Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at "The View." Cyndi Lauper's "Sisters of Babylon" played in the background.

A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.

"When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done," she wrote. "Any more would take away."

They sould replace her with Patricia Heaton (sp) - the lady who plays Ray’s wife on “Everybody Loves Raymond”. From what I know she seems to be a well-reasoned, articulate lady. As for her politics, I am pretty sure she is very pro-life including taking a strong position against the stem cell initiatives in Missouri.

Anyway, I think she could be a good messenger for just plain decency - not conservative or liberal - just plain reason and what used to be called “common sense”.

I gotta caption this one:

(paraphrasing George Lucas a bit)

“Very well, Elizabeth, if you will not turn to the dark side...then you will die!”

But in all seriousness, be careful...I heard she can smell fear...

Sean did appear on that inane show but he did try to tell her off.

That wasn't my point. I didn't even know he was on The View because I don't watch trash TV. What I meant was Hannity is absolutely obsessed with Rosie - sometimes devoting half of the Hannity and Clown show to her. His time could be better spent talking about the amnesty bill, but Roger Ailes won't allow that. Every time Hannity and Clown has a Rosie story or a missing beautiful-blonde-of-the-week story or a Rudy love-fest interview I change the channel.

I agree with your other points. If you want to know what's going on, follow the money.

There’s also a “point u must” step away from the buffet table, but that hasn’t stopped her yet.

Guess Rosie's the coward since she walked. <> Good riddance.

Hasselbeck deserves praise. She stood up for our troops, didn't let Rosie get away with it in a hostile environment.

Rosie

Please move to Iran to become a human shield since you are so concerned about the US attacking Iran. BTW, the mullahs you are worried about might either hang you and stone you to death for being a big fat lesbian.

OH NO! What’s she going to do next? Put a whoopie cushion on Elizabeth’s chair? When all else fails the leftist whackjobs can fall back on the debating skills they’ve learned from Peewee’s Playhouse. (I know you are, but what am I?!)

They always act juvenile but demand that conservatives follow the adult rules.

Come to think of it, isn’t that what defines liberals and conservatives?

That picure says it all. Great choice.

That picture say her father should have masturbated the day Rosie was conceived instead of use that defective sperm.

Quick note, Rosie is a lesbian like my grandma is a wagon. Rosie is what's known as a "couldn't get laid in prison with a fistful of pardons" lesbian. No man at the level of looks, money, personality, whatever, she believes she's entitled to would touch her. She's bitter. She has father issues because her mother passed away while she was a teen. She's been spurned more than once at high school parties by guys she's hit on. Know her type. Well.

I just let out a Chris Matthews "HA!".

Trump got in a public feud with Rosie. In the end he didn’t have his show, she was still on hers.

Elizabeth gets in a fight with Rosie, she’s still on the show and its Rosie who takes flight and flees before her time was up.

Who’s really the dumb person here? The one that won a fight against that ill informed loud mouth, or the one that did not? Donald needs to consider silence for himself may be the wisest investment he’s made in years.

"We need to have a Hasselbeck rule."

I second the motion. Elisabeth is everything Rosie is not.

Generally speaking, you will find that comedians are some of the most miserably unhappy person to walk the planet.

And a bitter, butch, 3/4 insane, comedian like Rosie makes you wonder how she holds it together in public as well as she does. And she doesn’t hold it together very well at that.
