Hilarious! I had a paperback copy of
The Stand that I loaned to a friend on the flightline, and forgot about. I had put my rank/name inside, along with my duty phone. About three years later, I get a call from a Colonel asking to speak with Airman Bob - I explain that I am now Sergeant Bob - and he tells me that they are getting ready to come to Nellis and he has something for me. He comes to the shop with my book, covered in duct tape to hold it together, and about sixty different signatures and ranks of the different folks who had borrowed and read it.
It was a small piece of my military history, and my lovely ex-wife managed to lose it.

What a neat story. I’m VERY sorry your ex-wife lost it.
