President's Statement on Bipartisan Immigration System Proposal
May 17, 2007, 3:25 P.M. EDT

[SNIP]

As I reflect upon this important accomplishment, important first step toward a comprehensive immigration bill, it reminds me of how much the Americans appreciate the fact that we can work together -- when we work together they see positive things.

Immigration is a tough issue for a lot of Americans. The agreement reached today is one that will help enforce our borders, but equally importantly, it will treat people with respect. This is a bill where people who live here in our country will be treated without amnesty, but without animosity.

I look forward to a good vote out of the United States Senate as quickly as Leader Reid can get the bill moving, and then of course we look forward to working with the House of Representatives to take this first step and convert it into a successful second step. I really am anxious to sign a comprehensive immigration bill as soon as I possibly can. Today we took a good step toward that direction.

Thank you.

I was hoping that W could be turned around on the borders and illegal immigration in his second term as he was apparently turned on the Meirs SCOTUS appointment. Hasn't happened.

I’d say that not enforcing the borders would be grounds for impeachment (along with all of Congress). If the ‘Rats want to impeach him (for other things likely), I’ll not be lifting a finger to stop them.

Of course. Wouldn't want the peons ... err dummies ... err suckers ... err voters to have time to ponder the full ramifications of this monstrosity of a bill!

Get it moving "Leader" Reid!

Boy, the GOP better have gotten something REAL REAL REAL good out of this deal because they're going to have plenty of time to repent at their leisure in the future out in the hinterlands.

There is NO way that I'll vote for anybody who votes in favor of this bill left or right!

Maybe it's just time to dump the whole GOP. They don't represent me and my family and our values. Why should I keep them in business by voting for them???

Personally, I voted for and SUPPORTED Bush both elections, but now I put him on about the same level as Clinton. Neither respected the rule of law.

I'll just bet the sorry SOB is anxious to sign it. This is what he's wanted since the day he took office. It works with his vision of the "Americas." I hope someone starts impeachment papers against him. I'd darn sure sign it. He has betrayed his oath of office and he has betrayed the American people.
