A friend of mine works at a Southern California public high school. They have a long, long list of rules that they send to parents, stuff (many seemingly innocent) that kids aren't allowed to wear because they are signs of being in a gang. These were just some of them:
Buttoning the top button of a shirt while leaving one of the lower buttons undone.
Skipping a belt loop.
Wearing a shirt with "Los Angeles" on it, (or any of a number of team names or logos.)
Wearing certain colors.
She went on and on and on...this is apparently a very long list which must be constantly updated and mailed out to parents. I wonder how much time, money, and effort is put into compiling and enforcing this kind of thing? And obviously the kids just keep changing their gang signs. It's ridiculous.
This happened at my son's school. The kids couldn't wear shirts or caps with logos of certain teams because of the fear of gang affiliation....
You would think it would have been just Raider gear, but it wasn't.
The kids can't wear ball caps at all, unless it is raining, they can wear them from class to class. The ballcap must be plain, no logos unless it is the school logo. The sweatshirts must be plain, or with the school logo.
