REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN TAKE IT TO BUSH (Iraq war - RINOs join the Dem coup attempt)

TIM RUSSERT, NBC NIGHTLY NEWS: Brian, all eyes on the Republican party. How long will they support the president's position on the Iraq War? Yesterday may have been a defining, pivotal moment.

At two-thirty in the afternoon, in the private quarters of the White House, the Solarium Room, eleven Republican congressmen had a private meeting with the president, the secretary of defense, the secretary of state, the chief political advisor Karl Rove, and the White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, and others.

This delegation was headed by Mark Kirk of Illinois and Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania. It was, in the words of one of the participants, the most unvarnished conversation they've ever had with the president.

Another member has said he has met with three presidents and never been so candid. They told the president, and one said, quote, "My district is prepared for defeat. We need candor, we need honesty, Mr. President."

The president responded, "I don't want to pass this off to another president. I don't want to pass this off, particularly, to a democratic president," underscoring he understood how serious the situation was.

Brian, the Republican congressmen went on to say, "The word about the war and its progress cannot come from the White House or even you, Mr. President. There's no longer any credibility. It has to come from General Petraeus.

The meeting lasted an hour and fifteen minutes, and was, in the words of one, " remarkable for the bluntness, and no holds barred honesty and the message delivered by all these Republican congressmen.

BRIAN WILLIAMS: And Tim...how did the president react and how did this then affect the instructions for VP Cheney heading off to Iraq?

RUSSERT: One congressman said, "How can our daughters and sons spill their blood while the Iraqi parliament goes on vacation? The president responded, "The Vice President is over there to tell them, 'Do not go on vacation.'"

Developing...

I saw pictures of the President in Kansas reviewing the damage from the storms. Is this an old story?

all the reasons for going in, are not there any more (i.e. WMD, Saddam and Sons)

Establishing a democracy in the Middle East was one of of the reasons discussed in public prior to March 2003, by White House staffers and others.

Those with selective memory seem to forget that, but I don't.

I agree that many Republicans are RINO’s. I think that Bush is too liberal. One of the congressman who attended that meeting is my rep., Mark Kirk (R-IL). He’s pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, anti-gun rights, pro-illegal alien, pro-spending increase, and pro-tax increase. I e-mailed him, twice, and I asked why he’s a Republican. I haven’t received a response.

My friend, +7 is NOT a blowout; however, our losses were typical for an off year election during the second term of two-term presidency — politically, Reagan’s losses in 1986 were more devastating.

Bush can do town hall meetings with real Americans and not invited butt-kissers whose questions to him are of the “Are you a great President or the greatest President?” variety. The MSM won’t cover another stupid waste of breath speech. He just has to listen to adversarial questions from the public and respond to them. The MSM will guaranteed cover that. It would be great theater. I don’t think Bush is comfortable handling questions in that kind of forum. That’s what he has to do: defend his position bravely.

I would like their names because I would like to write them. I think they are wrong. I know that Norm Coleman, Susan Collins and John Sununu are three of them. I have already written them letters. I also got that Tom Davis and Charles Dent were two from the article. If you have the names of the others, I will be glad to write them letters. I have been very mad that these yellow spines have done this. they are just as bad as pelosi and reid at undermining our country and our troops.

I called him a RINO lover. He has betrayed of conservatism.

Anyone who can say with a straight face:

“Rudy as President will be as pro-life as Ronald Reagan,”, doesn't have all his conservative brain cells functioning anylonger.

By nice, I mean his ‘new tone’, saying ‘Islam is a religion of peace’ weeks after 9/11 instead of rounding up and shipping out all non-citizens from predominantly Muslim countries, and graciously congratulating Madam Speaker, when she does nothing but pile horse dung on him.

It could just as easily be weakness, weariness, or incompetence as well.

Wars of “pre-emption” are a no-go for the foreseeable future. We will only take on wars of revenge, meaning there has to be something the avenge (i.e. a suitcase nuke in midtown Manhattan) in the first place.

They are NOT RINO's! This IS the face of the real Republican party, the one Reagan tried to save only to see it sink back down into its old, neosocialist, Beltway country club mindset. It's hopeless.

Check out the Constitution Party.

It’s worse than that.

When Tom Davis says in his district that Bush’s approval ratings are at 5%, that sez a lot about the populace.

“The majority of the GOP are Rhino’s.

Home...we tell the elected folk what we expect, they pat us on the head, and do exactly what they want and then whine and blame the base for not supporting them when they play nice with the dems.

Conservatives do not want nice with the dems...we want political take no prisoners war, just like the dems have been waging since 2000.

"President Bush simply wasn't up to the task of leading the American people into a long war."

Who do you think could have done a more "competent" job?
