Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt faced frail men in dark fedoras and children in bright skullcaps Tuesday and apologized for Belgian authorities' involvement in the deportation of Jews to Nazi extermination camps during World War II.
"Only by recognizing the responsibility of the authorities at the time, can we build a future where this will never happen again," he told a gathering of Jewish and government officials before unveiling a plaque to commemorate Belgians who saved Jews from the Holocaust.

In many countries, the local police cooperated with the Nazis and made it their job to hunt down and arrest Jews.
I guess rather sorry for being complicit in crimes, as were most Occupied Western European countries. There was a lot of collaboration from Authorities and numerous fascist parties and Waffen-SS volunteers in the occupied countries.
This can’t be blamed entirely on the status of being occupied.

I travel to Belgium on a regular basis, and I know many Belgium citizens. Take it to the bank: they do NOT regret handing over ten of thousands of Jews to the Nazis.
Like most left wingers, they are anti-semitic at the core.
