Jan III Sobieski - King of Poland vs Islamic Ottoman Empire

September 11th, 1683, the day when an alliance of Christian armies led by Jan III Sobieski, the King of Poland, arrived at the Gates of Vienna.

It was then, at the last possible moment on the evening of September 11th, that Jan Sobieski arrived at a hill north of the city, leading a force of 40,000 Poles and their German and Austrian allies. The battle began soon afterwards, in the early morning hours of September 12th.

The siege was broken and city was saved. Jan III Sobieski was received as the hero of Vienna. Though it was not evident at the time, the Ottoman tide had turned at the Gates of Vienna and was about to recede, beginning its long withdrawal through the Balkans and Greece into Asia Minor over the next two centuries.

What is striking about Jan III Sobieski is the quality of his leadership. More important than arms, manpower, tactics, supplies, and even courage, leadership is what makes the difference in any war. When Jan Sobieski led his men down that hill into the Ottoman flank, it was his presence at the front of the charge that demonstrated his dauntless nature and absolute determination. Character cannot be faked, and men who recognize this kind of character in their leader will follow him into the gates of Hell.

I see your point. We have the same security measures (the walls/bollards installed to pop up). My neighbor is armed to the teeth, though. The past two years, I have felt very safe living next to him LOL. We have several mounted K-Bars at ready access...I wouldn’t go down without fighting to protect my kids. I know my dogs wouldn’t either. Let’s hope it would never come to that. I trust our guards. I feel secure on the bases I have lived on. I have to admit, here in Yuma, I would get frustrated at how seemingly over-zealous PMO tended to be with gate security. I won’t ever complain about it again. Reading this story has reminded me how grateful I am that they do such a great job.

Family Reacts To Suspect Arrest In Terror Plot

(CBS 3) CHERRY HILL Family members were shocked when police burst into their Camden County home Monday night to arrest a man suspected in an alleged terror plot to attack Fort Dix.

Neighbors said authorities stormed a home on Tampa Avenue in Cherry Hill after the arrest of alleged terror plot suspect Mohamad Shnewer.

The home, which reportedly was the location of the Lamis Cab Company, was searched for over three hours. Israa Shnewer said her brother, who was born in Jordan, was working legally in the United States. “He just comes and sleeps here during the daytime. He goes back to work in the evening, stays all night as a cab driver and that’s it, that’s his life” said Israa Shnewer.

Israa said her father-in-law and brother-in-law were also briefly detained after authorities entered their Cherry Hill home. “The had the flashlights in our eyes and they were like searching like they don’t trust us,” he said. Sources said Mohamad Shnewer was arrested while inside his cab at Philadelphia International Airport.

Court documents said Shnewer, who lived in Pennsauken with his aunt, often went to a shooting range in the Poconos with at least 9 other suspects. His sister believes Shnewer was targeted because of his race and religion.

“The Poconos, it’s a vacation, they go there for vacation. That’s it, seriously,” Israa Shnewer said. “They go there, they shoot a little at the shooting range, they want to have fun. I mean, they’re guys.”

A FBI complaint states Shnewer told a cooperating witness they would need 6 to 7 men to kill approximately 100 soldiers at Fort Dix using rocket propelled grenades and various firearms.
