Why do we have to remain "civilized?" More backstabbing, underhanded and downright filthy, dirty malicious mischeif is promulgated by people practicing phony "diplomacy," or "civility," than under ANY other guise! Think about it?

Then let us rip into the subject matter unbridled with artsey/fartsey "civility" in a intellectually honest manner that doesn't remind us of intellectual "self-abuse" as grandma used to call it!!!

Just a contrarian thought, ok?

but I’m surprised the “only RINOs can WIN!” crowd hasn’t shown up on this thread to complain yet

Where were you during the cull?

“Why do we have to remain “civilized?” “

“I encourage healthy yet civil discussion of the candidates.”

People don’t. I was just encouraging it. If I see someone holding a torch high and they begin to weild it around until the roof and walls begin burning, then I will probably speak up. Other than that, I’ve got other things I’m working on and likely won’t be here on the thread much. I will update info that is fr-mailed to me though.

If by favorite son you mean Duncan Hunter, I agree he's another excellent candidate. I'd say he's closest to me on the issues and would be my first choice if he were a statewide official instead of a Congressman. But if Duncan Hunter can pull off a primary victory he'd be an killer candidate in November. Also if he doesn't make it past the primary, I hope he will consider running for Governor of California in 2010, as we desperately need up-and-coming conservative leaders to take back the state. The RINO-Dem combine there has just about destroyed the Golden state. RINOs ususally wipe out the GOP and make it impossible for a real Republican to succeed them, though in Rhode Island conservative Don Calcerri managed to suceed a retiring RINO governor)

Hunter's claim to fame is not only being a prominent conservative in a "blue state", but that he got elected in a "blue district" that was 2-to-1 Democrat. Way to go Duncan, take that Ahnuldbots.

I'm glad to see this race starting early because we can keep on mentioning the names Hunter, Thompson, and Huckabee until Republicans around the nation learn they won on principle in strong Democrat regions. The Rudy/Ahnuld crowd can only hold their ears and say "lalalala, ONLY RINOs are ELECTABLE in blue states!" for so long before people find out the truth.

I have to confess -- having been born and raised in Illinois (as the Ahnuldbots endlessly pointed out during the recall), Tommy Thompson is pretty much a "favorite son" of conservatives from the great lakes region, I expect he'll suprise the naysayers and be very compentative in primaries like Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan (all "blue states" difficult for Republicans to "win"), but we'll see.

I agree with a Hunter supporter on another thread who said "I don't see all the fawning over Fred Thompson, IF he announces Fred would probably be my 3rd or 4th choice behind Hunter and some others". My thinking is the only time conservatives have been "unelectable" is when they are status quo candidates from "safe" states, like Bob Dole. I like Fred, he's about an 80% conservative (has some bad votes like supporting McCain and CFR), but I don't see a Senator from a "safe Bush" state playing well nationwide. I'm much more euthesisatic for unapologeticly conservative, Washington outsiders reformesr that are proven winners in places that aren't likely to go Republican.

This is the first place I’ve ever seen Alan Keyes listed as a *candidate*. Cracks me up. The fact that there’s no photo of him cracks me up even more. Thanks for the laughs.

All these candidates are trying to lay claim to being the next Reagan, well the truth is there will never be another Ronald Reagan. There are alot of good candidates that each have various aspects of Reaganism. Combine Tommy Thompson’s experience as executive of a blue state and record as a conservative policy wonk, with Duncan Hunter’s humble southern California background and tough-guy steel resolve, with Mike Huckabee’s folksy charm and regular Joe image, with Mitt Romney’s master communication skills and telegetic abilities, and maybe throw in a pinch of Fred Thompson’s “Hollywood movie star” credentials, and THEN you’d have Ronald Reagan.

Someone said it best... the only thing the first debate showed us is which candidates do NOT carry the Reagan mantle. The most obvious, of course, is Rudy Giuliani.

What about Ron Paul’s SINCERE belief in limited government?

That was one of the main ingredients in Reagan’s presidency.

Wull hay! BillyBoy... I was born an raised in IL, too! (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Nice comments and as usual, you've got your head screwed on really strait and your thoughts are appreciated by this Cauleeforneeun, stuck in Schwartzenegger's stupendous Sierra-Nevada CONservancy whose many huge counties vote RED everytime!!! (except Alpine county, that's owned by Gay Bay BLUE voters all-the-time)

Until I see someone with better conservative credentials, I will continue to support Duncan Hunter.

You're right, Wasp. I hope Hunter is picking up steam in the $$ area, but I really don't know.

I suspect the DBM will continue doing everything it can to suppress any coverage of Hunter lest GOP voters discover he's the closest thing to a true conservative we've seen in an awful long time.

Thank you BillyBoy. I’m not adding Rudy. The information on Thompson for review and discussion is exactly why I created this thread. I’m updating links under Tommy Thompson’s name in the header and will send off an update request this afternoon.

That’s a good point about the “non-declared” persons. I’ll note them on the next update. As for Keyes, I think he has earned his place in the conservative ranks. I’ve asked multiple times for any of his supporters to fr-mail a picture I could use but have not received one. If someone could help out with that, I would appreciate it. I did a lot of digging to find what I did to get the thread kicked off. Thanks for your input.

Header Update!

Non-declared status noted. Tommy Thompson info updated. I grabbed a Keyes photo.

Thanks to the Admin Moderator for the help!

Please add Daily Paul under Ron Paul. This is an active blog covering his campaign.
