When Sarkozy appeared at 8:30pm, half an hour after his Electionm, one of the first things he mentioned was his friendship and admiration for the US. As soon as he did, the crowds burst out into applause and cheering.
Of course France does not want to be a vassal of the US. Having a friend and ally in charge in France opens up possibilities that were closed before.

Excellent! I presume it's still risky to campaign as an openly pro-US candidate in France. But it's great that the crowd was supportive of him, when he revealed his colours. France is not lost!
