SARASOTA -- A group pushing to legalize marijuana plans to march at noon today as part of the annual Global Marijuana March.
The Florida Cannabis Action Network will hold signs at Fruitville Road and Washington Boulevard, making Sarasota one of 232 cities around the world taking part.
The group calls for the end to all cannabis arrests and the legalization of cannabis for recreation, medicine, food, fiber, agriculture and fuel.
Cannabis needs no pesticides and little fertilizer, is the strongest natural fiber known to man and can be used as an alternative fuel, the group says.
The same group rallied in front of former U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris' office last July, but was not motivated to lambast her as initially planned.
Group members had planned to blast Harris for her opposition to legislation that would have allowed medicinal use of the drug.
But the group's leader said he lost his desire to pick on Harris because she was giving up her House seat to run for the Senate.

Incredibly, it is said our right to live how we want to live can be trumped by the 'majority wiil'; that our right to raise children in an environment we desire can be trumped by such legislative 'decisions'.
- That you have no right to engage in whatever your peers may decree to be selfish, immoral or hedonistic behaviors.
Well said.
Of all the sellouts of our Constitution the one that is most disappointing is the Supreme Court who let the Commerce Clause destroy federalism, and allowed the remaining Bill of Rights just wither away. I hope the founders of the next republic make note of that.

Now were being told another incredible tale, - that a 1890 U.S. Supreme Court decision supposedly said that federal officials are immune from state action, even if they are exercising constitutionally repugnant functions.
Bizarre interpretations. What will the socialists think of next?

Suppressing speech? How about "telling the other side"?
Actually I was talking about the incident in Montana where a couple of pro-legalization groups were going to have a rally at a VFW and some DEA agent threatened the VFW with a 250K fine using the Rave Act if anyone on the premises was caught doing anything illegal.
A truly atrocious piece of legislation courtesy of Joe Biden, but an equally atrocious action by the DEA.
In the case of Marc Emery from Canada, Karen Tandy also said another chilling thing:
"Today's arrest of Mark (sic) Scott Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine and the founder of a marijuana legalization group, is a significant blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in the U.S. and Canada, but also to the marijuana legalization movement."
I was not aware that the DEAs job includes stopping the marijuana legalization movement.

"and some DEA agent threatened the VFW with a 250K fine using the Rave Act"Wow. You're really digging around in order to find something to be offended about. That single incident happened four years ago.
These so called marijuana "rallies" and "benefits" and "festivals" are nothing more than an excuse for a bunch of dopers to get together and flaunt their marijuana use in front of law enforcement, daring the cops to place them under arrest. If the VFW wants to sponsor this crap, then let them suffer the consequences.
The adults are getting a little tired of the childish wink-wink, nudge-nudge attitude of the sponsors of the marijuana-user-recruitment "rallies" who say that it's "only a rally and we can't control drug use". Right. 70,000 people at football games every weekend all over the country with no drug use -- but the VFW has no control over a little rally on their premises?
"I was not aware that the DEAs job includes stopping the marijuana legalization movement."
Stopping? Merely a pleasant side effect of his arrest.
If you posted the complete quote, maybe you'd have a different perspective. Ms. Tandy added, "Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Emery's illicit profits are known to have been channeled to marijuana legalization groups active in the United States and Canada."

Wow. You're really digging around in order to find something to be offended about. That single incident happened four years ago.
The reason you have not heard more about it that there was such a stink raised about it that the DEA had to back down. They would continue to do it if they could, being the low quality of people that they are.

I would call it civil disobedience to fight tyranny and evil.

(1) There are no adults in the drug warrior movement. In fact, when they passed the Control Substances Act of 1969, they should have named it I suck as a parent and I want the government to raise by children for me Act of 1969.
(2) I will bet that at a NASCAR rally there may be a few tokers, so I guess we should use the RAVE act to go after them, or if a fan throws a chair at a basketball player, we should use the RAVE act to go after the owner of the Stadium.
If you posted the complete quote, maybe you'd have a different perspective. Ms. Tandy added, "Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Emery's illicit profits are known to have been channeled to marijuana legalization groups active in the United States and Canada."
And if you would have read further you would know her claim was completely debunked.
