What people don’t understand is the effect projectiles traveling at those speeds have on body fluids and tissue. When you consider the human skull is really nothing more than a pressurized thin walled vessel, composed mostly of fluid. When hit by a high velocity projectile, the hydraulic reaction of the body fluid is more like a water balloon or soda can exploding, with most of the fluid and tissue exiting in a variety of directions including back towards the shooter. We shot several cantaloupes with 30-06 using ball ammo. The results were very dramatic explosions, with about 20% of the material being blown back towards the shooter.
