Whoa, right there!

I live in Las Vegas, and it's not far from here.

I've visited the massacre site.

I know the history.

There were investigations post-massacre, and people leaked the story afterwards--some of the younger children, who were forcibly adopted into Mormon families, spoke of it, and there was a federal investigation. The history is known. Don't try to throw smoke over bloody history.

For those of you who don't live in the area, I think you might want to know this: The plaques that are replaced there at regular intervals, commemorating the event, are vandalized by Mormons who do not want the rest of us to know what they say. They can't keep a plaque on the Mountain Meadows Massacre site for very long.

Whole families--including women and very young children--were attacked...and wiped out.

I didn't raise this issue, but when I see historical revisionism rear its ugly head, it will not go uncorrected and unchallenged.

There. Truth is out, a small piece at a time.

Curious

***** The plaques that are replaced there at regular intervals, commemorating the event, are vandalized by Mormons who do not want the rest of us to know what they say.

I’ve been there too, on a trip through Utah. I don’t remember any vandalism but then they may have just recently replaced the plaque.

But are you sure it was “Mormons” that did the vandalism? Was there a newspaper article or some interview were someone confessed to the vandalism?

So should I blame the Mormons or the local “don’t want you to believe this marker” crowd for most of the vandalism I’ve seen at various historical markers around the country?

I don’t know who did the vandalism but I’d be hesitant to finger someone or some group without some physical evidence.

But if there is evidence regarding who did the vandalism, then your statement was accurate. Stating the evidence up front helps avoid knee jerk reactions by a group that might find offense in your phraseology.

As for me I believe I understand what you meant.

I lived in Vegas during my High School years, many moons ago. And was also a Mormon back then.I was young and only interested in their youth programs that had to do with volleyball and softball. People for the most part were very nice but not being able to drink colas never really caught on with me. My dad being a drunk did come to one of my softball games and made me proud. He never smoked one time or drank that day. Only time I can ever remember him doing anything like that. I do remember being told that if I didn’t go to church I could not be on the softball team. I kept playing and they didn’t really know how to make somebody go to church. Faith and theology had nothing to do with my experience and over all it was nice.Loved Vegas and wish some day I could go back and visit.
