“Oh, and why they left? Because they were dirt poor and couldnt pay their tithing bills that kept coming in the mail.”
That’s the kind of distortion I’ve been talking about. There is no such thing as a “tithing bill.” Payment is entirely voluntary, and not paying it is not as excommunicable offense. The only ramification of not paying tithing is that you cannot be a temple recommend holder.
No one has EVER been kicked out of the LDS Church for not paying tithing. You may be representing the story accurately as you heard it, but somebody in the chain of information is lying.
Not all LDS are conservative they are like in any other religion you have the practicing faithful, and those “ Mormons in name only” “Mino” like you for years before you departed but in the mean time you were counted!
“But I think the Mormon church, maintains more control over its members than other churches do. And that bothers me a bit.”
Would you mind explaining how you come to this conclusion? Perhaps we can help put your mind at ease.
That movie has been in production for over three years. It was filmed three years ago and has been in the editing and distribution process. Mitt was elected Governor of MA at about the same time.
It isn't an anti-Romney conspiracy.
Are you saying that no TMB (true Blue Mormon) would ever vote Democrat?
Is that some of the mind control thing tantiboh was just trying to discount.
What boloney are you spreading now?
If its not Romney there still might be Thompson available?
“Youre on the same threads, too.”
Yes, I am - and believe it or not, I’m not stalking you.
In my case, I routinely do topic searches for the words “Mormon” and “Romney,” as the resulting discussions tend to interest me very much. Because of this, I have built up acquaintances with like interests who routinely ping me in to threads such as this one.
I would assume that you, DelphiUser, and, until recently, NN have arrived via similar means. To accuse DU of stalking NN is a very specious assertion to make, just as it would be to accuse you of stalking me.
Now, if you were to show up in a thread about, say, the latest Microsoft technology and continue to slam me, then I would have reasonable suspicion.
“This threat that if we dont support Romney, the Mormons will abandon conservativism is very disturbing.”
None of us have ever issued such a threat, CC. You’re jumping to unfounded conclusions.
resty if you follow the thread and the posts I responded to, I was responding to precisely the supposition that Mormons would abandon the GOP. That was suggested by George W. Bush many many post ago on post 461.

Dear, do try to keep up.
You may not have, but others did. Read post 461.
Very well, I stand corrected. Thanks, CC.
“You may not have, but others did. Read post 461.”
If I recall, GWB is a Baptist. I’ll leave it to him to clarify this ‘threat’ if he so chooses.
>Perhaps we can help put your mind at ease.<
Please do.
How can a TBA(true blue American)let a lone a TBM vote for these leftist CC?
BTW most family oriented folks live in the suburbs not a city unless they are single or retired!
I don’t know if you count if accurate it is what you say and been told it far less than what you quoated CC.
“Please do.”
I’d be happy to, but you’ll need to answer the question first. :-)
John 8:58: “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I Am!”
John 14:6: “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:9: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”
Just a composite of all that I’ve heard about the LDS church from friends who are no longer in the church. I am not going into detail. If you require more than that, you needn’t bother.
The guy next to him replies, "Well before you tell that joke, you should know something. I'm 6' tall, 200 lbs., and I am an anti-Mormon. The guy sitting next to me is 6'2 tall, weighs 225, and he's an anti-Mormon. The fella next to him is 6'5 tall, weighs 250, and he's an anti-Mormon. Now, you still wanna tell that joke?"
The first guy says, "Nah, not if I'm gonna have to explain it 3 times."
Thank you Saundra, for a well-written, thoughtful paper. The "threat" of Mormonism is absurd, but better understood when one realizes the revenue gained by those selling anti-Mormon books, films, etc. I grew up with a lot of anti-Mormon rhetoric in my family. Grandma couldn't spew out enough venom towards "Mormons," yet it was they who helped her most in her declining years. A neighbor moved into a predominantly Mormon neighborhood and immediately launched his anti-Mormon diatribes. After a car accident in which many of his family were either killed or hospitalized, the Mormon neighbors cooked, cleaned and washed his laundry for one full year. I could go on with the stories of good LDS people who looked beyond hate to Christ and in following Him served their fellowman.
It was not an accusation. It was a fact, due to the early admonition on the thread. Asking others to use decorum is not uncalled for. And, you are trying that tactic with me at this moment. I do not follow anyone from thread to thread. I don’t seek out posters. If I’m on a thread and they are there, okay. But, I don’t feel the need to check the field and go to battle. FR is not the center of my world. I don’t even use keyword searches.
Well, I can’t address specifics that I don’t have. Still, in my experience, ex-Mormons tend to be quite hostile in their outlook toward the LDS Church. I would suspect that they are telling you some things that are filtered through that lens.
In my case, I’m grateful that I’m a Mormon. It has brought me many blessings and happiness in my life.
In any case, whether or not one agrees with LDS theology, Mormons tend to have pretty conservative outlooks on life. I’m sure the vast majority of us would agree with you politically.
