“His trainer, Mathilde Halberg, told America’s People magazine: “He was 16-and-a-half years old, and he just had an incredible charisma and was such a free spirit. I saved him from the dog pound. His owners called me as a last resort. He was extremely mischievous, always escaping, chewing up things and running off. Once he killed a neighbour’s cat and chased some horses, that was him.”
I’m a dog lover of all breeds...the pitbull suffers today mainly because of “backyard breeding” practices, abuse, and encouragement of its fighting spirit. I have in my lifetime been associated with several family dogs which could be classified as “pitbulls” (an American Staffordshire Terrier, two Bullterriers, and an American bulldog). All were socialized and gentlemanly, one even let my cat drink from the same water bowl as him (Think Cesar, The National Geographic Channel’s “Dog Whisperer,” Milan’s dog “Daddy”). Pitbulls, IMHO, are like firearms. In the hands of well-trained competent persons they’re safe and fine; in the hands of fools, outlaws or children they’re very dangerous. Punish the owner, not the dog.
We have had 8 Jack Russels (Jack, Doc, Bobo, Zoe, Lolly, Tootie, Hairy and Cookie) over the last 15 years with 4 of those being Jack Russel rescues. We love the breed and will always have them.
