“Water boy” has no racial overtones. It merely refers to an underling who does the bidding of someone of greater importance. If anything, the “boy” part is a word offensive to blacks, and “water boy” might also be offensive to Indians (from India, not from one of the gambling casinos) because of the whole “Gunga Din” thing. Latinos are apparently only offended by water references when the water is on their backs (generally from the Rio Grande) and not when it is being carried in a canteen.

Speaking about being offended for no good reason, I was waiting for the Revs. Sharpton and Jackson to complain that Randy Moss, recently acquired by the Patriots, has been referred to as an “enigma.” Can’t allow that, now can we?

I agree, unfortunately. As much as I’d like to see Cafferty go down in a blaze of his own sleaze (the best term someone used to describe him), I can’t get behind this being the thing that does it. It’s simply not racial. It’s disrespectful, but it’s not racial, and apparently Cafferty’s only value in life is being as ignorantly disrespectful as possible. I still boggle at what it is this man is supposed to be doing on a top-run news broadcast. He’s like a mean, drunk sidekick or something.
