Bot to intrude but since you will be in Jamestown visiting why not take a ride up Route #5. It has easy access from the Ferry Road and with all of the River Plantations along the James makes ones eyes tear from the beauty, Visit former Presidents homes, out buildings and not spend a fortune in doing. Continue up the highway and visit historic Richmond, Petersburg, see th old battlefields and enjoy the richness the state of Virgina has to offer. Yes, I have lived here almost my life and enjoy it more and more each day. Have a great day, I know your child would get a years worth of History in a days time from her trip up this one highway.

I am not familiar with the road numbers, so thank you for the info. Your post describes my perfect idea of a history viewing roadtrip excursion.

I was born and raised in NYC, but never ventured upstate to Albany. Our daughter was born in Dover, Delaware and so is familiar with the history of that city and state. So seeing Richmond is a must do on my list, and not just for her but for me, particularly now that the renovations to the capitol are done and it once again open to the public.
