You would then be in violation of IL State Laws which state that a written receipt must be issued for every sale of a firearm and said receipt must be retained by both the buyer and the seller for a period of seven years.
Said receipt must also include the serial number of the firearm in question.
Therefore the correct response to an armed agent of the State showing up at your front door is "Do you have a warrant?"

Well, from some Googling based on some old memories about such a list, it turns out that in one of the nuisance lawsuits by left-wing municipalities, the City of Chicago sued the BATF to release its "multiple sales record" database. (The NRA filed an excellent amicus briefing opposing this release.) The court ruled in Chicago's favor, and then it appears that the city decided to abuse that release by giving the list to this CAGE unit to be misused to harass gunowners.

nobody would have a gun...except the criminal who can always obtain one in the black market.

When a cop visits you, it is NEVER because he wants to talk about football. Before inviting him into your home, always ask what it is about, and ask if there is any reason you cannot discuss it outside. If he says he HAS to come inside, that is a good sign it is serious and you already need a lawyer. If a cop stops and helps you on the street, he is your friend. I have several LEO’s in my family and they would say you are full of crap!
Thankfully, and by no accident, I am not subject to IL laws.
Assuming I sit around passively as they go house to house.
I have four LEO relatives and only one is against private firearms ownership,and he is a retired Illinois State police captain.Of the other twenty or more LEO’s that I know none of them think honist citizens should be denied 2A rights.At the police range of which I am a member(not a cop)they thin kmore people should practice as much as I do especially some of their fellow officers.
