Respectfully disagree. If the parents run a tight ship with strict rules from the cradel to the free world of 18, these teens will grow in their respect for their parents and become healthy, happy, productive adults.
Its when you decide at age 14 or 15 that its time to start being a parent that you will run into the scenario you noted.

Absolutely not. If you keep them under your thumb until the magic day they turn 18, the results will be bad. Personal experience proves this out. If you don't start giving them some responsibilities and the privileges that go with them at some point, it is unreasonable to expect them to act like adults.
