And once again, absolutely the wrong lesson will be carried away from the Virginia Polytech massacre.

Concealed carry is NOT a cure-all for the problems of a beserker gunman who no longer feels compelled to abide by the rules. But conceal carry does have the not-so-subtle message that retaliation is a very real response to bad behavior with load weapons.

Maybe, with the concealed carry law in effect, the carnage will be either prevented altogether, as the assailant weighs his chances of making a serious impression before he is taken down, or a little street justice gets meted out right away.

I feel a lot safer knowing that, thanks to stringent gun control regulations, I and my family are completely at the mercy of any nut who wants to kill us. Thanks again, elected representatives.

The House voted to override the veto today. The Senate is scheduled to vote on Friday.

“Rep. Dale Swenson, R-Wichita, said his constituents have responded differently — and more favorably toward expanded gun rights — than they did in the wake of previous shootings.

He said most of the messages he got after the 1999 Columbine High School shootings in Colorado advocated stronger gun control. This time, e-mails have run almost unanimously in favor of relaxing controls to allow more guns for self-defense, he said.”

Ok, well at least some people have retained the ability to reason in in this country.

Serious students of criminality, as opposed to pop-psych paperback "criminologists", understand that criminals do make such calculations. They figure the odds of getting away with their plan, and then talk themselves into doing it. Not exactly rational but not just wild impulse either. The realistic potential of any given student carrying a firearm would have, more likely than not, made a deterrent difference in the thinking of Cho.
