......... a victory for Guiliani might be a victory for the Republican party, or what will be left of it, but it will not be a victory for Conservatives or America.............

Joe, I note that you are from North Dakota, but did you and your family ever travel to NYC before Rudy, or during Rudy??

No, not Rudy after 9/11; but Rudy when he was tasked to transform himself from the DA to the mayor; deal with a totally unmanageable city/state; take on the gangs, pimps, street, homeless, welfare, squeegies, taxes, corporations, bloated city government???

Yeah, Rudy got some prominence from the 9/11 mayorship, but you gotta check out his pre 9/11 creds!

Ok, so he had to be a big city realist re gun control with murder all around him, abortion, social issues, but he sure got NYC turned around: it’s crime infested unmanageable city became a entity of the past.

I can’t name a politician during the past sixty years with his balls!

I grew up about 50 miles from Washington D.C.. When I was in NYC in '74 it seemed pretty much like any other large city, except the people were generally more rude and the buildings were taller. It was dirty, had trash, etc., and winos and junkies, pretty typical.

If you want to see a clean big city go to Toronto. They don't even have trash in the alleys.

And he got the criminals where, exactly? If they aren't at the intersection with a squeegee they are still around. It looks better, it feels better, it just isn't in your face, but it is still there, isn't it?

Is the city government smaller? Still got gangs? Did the corporations (um, how did 'corporations' become evil?) leave?

Are the streets better (I thought the pothole was the state flower when I was there.)

Balls? You want Balls? Look at Bill Clinton. He had balls. He would do what he wanted when he wanted, damn the Constitution or the law!

I'm not sure just having Balls is enough.

Discretion counts for one hell of a lot. And if he has such big ones, how come he didn't inform his ex-to-be face to face? Now that takes balls.

Besides, at the moment not too many people would want his balls. Especially if they have a set of their own.

Ok, so he had to be a big city realist re gun control with murder all around him, abortion, social issues, but he sure got NYC turned around: it’s crime infested unmanageable city became a entity of the past.

From out here in the sticks, gun control looks like it still invites criminals to do their thing, simply because no one but the cops can do anything about it. Granted, the police population in NYC exceeds the population of most counties in my state, but our system of letting those who want to carry a firearm works, and we don't even have to buy all those firearms, just ours.

By our standards, NYC is still crime infested.

How does living in a big city make abortion any less murder?

As for "social issues" What? did he get rid of poor people?

Look at one simple fact, what "works" in a very big city will not work in most of America. Not only is the population density too small to make it economically feasible, but if the people here wanted to live in a big city, we would. We don't, and by choice.

Applying what "works" in NYC to the rest of the country would be a disaster.

If anything, you have convinced me even further that someone who would apply that paradigm to more rural areas and has the "balls" to push it is definitely NOT what we need.
