BAGHDAD - Nine U.S. soldiers were killed and 20 were wounded Monday in a suicide car bombing against a patrol base northeast of Baghdad, the military said.An Iraqi civilian was also wounded in the attack on Task Force Lightning soldiers in Diyala province, a volatile area that has been the site of fierce fighting involving U.S. and Iraqi troops, Sunni insurgents and Shiite militias.
Of the 20 wounded, 15 soldiers were treated and returned to duty while five others and the Iraqi were evacuated to a medical facility for further care, the military said.
Identities were not released pending notification of relatives.
It was the second bold attack against a U.S. base north of Baghdad in just over two months and was notable for its use of a suicide car bomber.
On Feb. 19, insurgents struck a U.S. combat post in Tarmiyah, about 30 miles north of Baghdad, killing two soldiers and wounding 17 in what the military called a "coordinated attack."
It began with a suicide car bombing, then gunfire on soldiers pinned down in a former Iraqi police station, where fuel storage tanks were set ablaze by the blast.
Militants have mostly used hit-and-run ambushes, roadside bombs or mortars on U.S. troops and stayed away from direct assaults on fortified military compounds to avoid U.S. firepower.
Oh! and when is it exactly that “we will have those resources/ cause it sure as hell is not now with all of you “Cut and Runners”. Ask the military, let them do their job. Period.
I don’t know about that... We’re not fighting the Germans or the Japanese here. The Muslims have a complete and total different mindset. They’re not fighting for the Fuhrer or Emperor, rather they don’t mind sacrificing their lives for their belief in Islam... and getting their 72 virgins along the way.

Their would be MAJOR repercussions in Iraq. You’d see the insurgency in Iraq turn up to a level that would make it currently look like a walk in the park.
Your frustration is more than understandable, but this is exactly what both the Democrats and the jihadists want to hear. No one here wants the sacrifices that are being made, but if we allow our anger and frustration to turn into defeatism, we will become what we despise and dishonor those who are giving their all. How do we tell the families of the fallen thanks but your sacrifice isn't worth fighting for?

And though I’m a 5 day old infant, I couldn’t help but notice based on the top half of your post, that you have no idea what’s going on in Baghdad or Iraq for that matter. Good luck with things.
Iran wouldn’t be able to do much more than they’re doing now unless they sent major reinforcements across the border. .....a border we’d be carpet bombing to hell in such an instance. The Iranian regime would be gone, and their military assets would be destroyed. Time to act.

Ah, no. We “dared” to rebuild Germany after their army was defeated, by that I mean their leader was snuffed.
Yes, Al Qaeda shall present a challenge as we rebuild Iraq. Similar to the hard liners that presented problems after their countries were defeated in past wars. The difference here is that the Democratic Party is invested in not allowing President Bush to defeat the enemy so that they can take control to suit their political agenda.

That, plus the fact that things have really returned to 'normal' so we don't FEEL the danger like we did in those early days.

Cut and Run my arse! I'm a vet married to active duty with former troops fighting and dying there. I know from which I speak. Our troops have accomplished their "original" mission. Problem is every year it morphs into something else. I know and feel the strain Iraq has placed upon our military. Cut and Run is a slogan, military readiness is a problem.
Harry Reid has blood on his hands for this attack. His remarks have emboldened the enemy and given them motivation for recruiting and to continue the attacks until the will of the American people is worn down.
Reid is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. There is a word for that, as well as a legally prescribed penalty.
Japs were just as vicious and were willing to fight to the death. If Iraq were leveled like Germany and Japoan, the war would be over......
But we had to play nice.

My cousin got an IED on his humvee last week and was injured (again).
They are flying him out to Germany and he is not expected to return to battle at this point.
From what I hear his injuries could have been much worse.
He, of course wanted to go back and support his buddies
but they didnt think he was up to it.
He is a tough son of a gun.

Yeah, slowly turning it over to the Iraqis...by surging over 20,000 more troops into the country and extending Army deployments to a 15-month minimum...
Either we take the time now, or we fight a war down the road when we are weaker and our allies are gone because they don't trust us to stick it out.
Who is "we" and "our" here? Go find the percentage of Americans who are actually involved in this war (as in, constant mortal danger). There ain't much "we" to be had. And as for our "allies," they're abandoning us slowly but surely. As far as our Iraqi "allies," those SOBs are so corrupt and in bed with Sunni militias or the Shi'ite Mahdi Army, that they're completely useless to us. Think I'm exaggerating? I'm on the absolute front line of the political nonsense in Sadr City, and it doesn't get any worse than that crap. At least those guys in Diyala have someone to shoot at most of the time. Here, we have to worry about whether the police are going to shoot us in the back (or just blatantly release obvious terrorists as I had happen to me only 2 days ago).
Bottom line: most Americans don't really have a stake in this and don't really understand how bad it is over here--not b/c the U.S. has failed, but b/c the Iraqi people have failed to step up. They seriously, honestly want to keep on going slaughtering each other and us whenever they can. And you want us ("us" as in my Soldiers and I) to keep on going? Come on over and try it yourself.
