I don’t know if I agree that it’s a good idea just to vote based on who you DON’T want to win. If a candidate knows he’ll get your vote no matter what, just because you don’t like the other guy, what in the world reason does he have to actually represent your views? By blindly voting, your surrendering all the power your vote actually represents.
You’re giving away your vote for free, for someone who has no intention of representing you. Thinking like that, you’re giving up your own principles and letting someone else dictate not just how you should vote, but how you HAVE to vote whether you like it or not. And when your vote becomes just a number, with no moral guidance behind it and no objective except just to stop “the other guy”, I think you’re taking our right to vote for granted.
It seems to me like politics has become a sporting event these days... people want their team to win just for the fact that its their team. But it’s not a sporting event, and I just can’t allow my vote to be used against me. We only get one vote, and I’ll be damned if I allow myself to be complicit in the election of someone dead-set on destroying everything I care about. I’d like to think I was telling the truth when I told people about the things I believe in - suporting Giuliani would turn ME into a liar and that’s just something I’m not willing to let happen.
Once we open that door, it’s difficult to close again.
