The problem with social liberalism is that it leads logically to fiscal liberalism (or communism if you prefer)an authoritarianism.
For example, government should not be involved in the contract of labor between employer and employee. This should mean that a company may choose to cover employees and their spouses in a man-woman relationship in a health care plan. This same company may not wish to cover a gay domestic partnership citing increased occurrence health problems among the gay population. In Rudy’s past positions, the government must intervene and force the company to offer the coverage, to “protect” the equality of gays.
We also have audio of Rudy saying that the government has an “obligation” to pay for poor women’s abortions that are a “constitutional right”. That is good evidence of a collectivist streak, as well as something that should be anathema to any stripe conservative.
Well, I am not a lefty by any measure [even my nasal septum is deviated to the right]. And as a taxpayer I would much rather fund $500 abortion than $100K welfare case [over 18 years, plus ancillary costs like law enforcement]. Of course, I would much rather not fund anything, but $500 is better than $100000.
