Rudy needs the conservative base to win. His character flaws work against him because they turn off the conservative base. He has shown that he is willing to compromise the basic cultural values of the majority of Americans to be popular with a liberal bastion, New York City. This may have been good politicking, but it is a recipe for cultural erosion that we are working to prevent.
