"fact that he did reform the NY crime situation and the budget in a total left wing climate are good signs."
Ya' know, that just don't wash, no mo'. You Rudy supporters have been getting away with that "Rudy brought crime down" stuff for too long. As a, then, resident of NY, I can tell you, it's just not true. You sound like the Clintons did about the economy, when, in fact, they inherited an already improving economy. Here is a graph showing that crime was already, quickly, on it's way down.
NYC is in red.

First, I would support Thompson before Giuliani. Second, even your chart shows a deep drop in crime under Rudy. Third, I not only lived there and know for a fact that he brought crime down, I have heard it from a multitude of New Yorkers AND I have had meetings with now Miami Chief Timoney who has discussed how they did it.
Law enforcement under Rudy was a night/day change on every level. Further, you are now crediting the total left wing soft on crime David Dinkins with solving New York's crime problem? The mayor who was attending drug dealers' funerals?
Giuliani reduced crime as mayor, changed the culture AND battled organized crime as a US Attorney.
