Right. The republicans spent 2006 running away from conservatism because they thought they had to appeal to the "centrists" to get elected.

and contrary to some opinion, the conservatives came out and voted anyway, because we did see that we needed to elect republicans.

But in SPITE of conservatives coming out, the strategy of running to the center did not win us the independent votes.

For some odd reason, some have the idea that running even MORE to the left is the key.

Conservatives, having done their job in 2006 because we had no choice, but having seen the proof that running to the center does not win you the independents, are not going let the party do that again, if we can help it.

Not only did Arnold not have coattails, he did not lift a finger to help other Republicans in the race, including the preeminent conservative in the state, McClintock. The only other Republican that won outspent the dumbocrat by 2-1.
