Well, Free Republic is “Conservative Central”.
No wonder some folks feel uncomfortable around here.
That’s the deal.
Can’t resist one comment on “Wideawakes,” and the irony of their choice of that name.
The original “Wideawakes” were radical abolitionists who were sick and tired of the compromised and cowardly Whig Party. They were third party radicals who had made up their minds that the scourge, the injustice, of slavery WAS going to end.
And yet, one of the primary links on the front of Ivan’s site says something like “no third parties.”
The folks who have gone over there, generally speaking, are about as far away from the spirit of the Wideawakes as you can possibly get. When it comes to the central moral question of our day - the scourge and injustice of abortion - they are a group of stone-cold Whigs.
May they all end up on the political ash heap of history where they rightfully belong.
