I assume this means that you want the President to issue an EO banning abortions nationwide.

Sure.

Let's call it the gestation proclamation. ;-)

Would you vote only for such a candidate?

I recognize that there are pro-lifers who have their heart in the right place who do not understand the federalist argument I have outlined.

That said, I am not keen on voting for someone who believes abortion should be decided by the states, and who actually opposes a federal role. We are not a confederacy, and life is a right.

Well, if a Presidential candidate said clearly during the campaign that he would sign the "gestation proclamation" and the voters approved, I don't think I'd have a problem.

If he issued such an EO after taking office and without prior notice, I think we could see a shattering of our federal system.

If you understand that risk and think it necessary when compared to the killing of the unborn, I can respect that position.

Just remember that in 1860 and 1861, there were many fire eaters on both sides who thought that after a brief period of saber rattling, their opponents would give in. They were wrong.
