Yes, Ronald Reagan would run as hard as he could against the RINO. But, he wouldn’t take down the party doing it.

You must not remember the election of 1976. Gerald Ford was the Rockefeller Republican (like Rudy). Ford was also the incumbent president. Reagan took him to the mat in the primaries and at the national convention and almost pinned him. The Party was cleaved cleanly in half.
