“I guarantee every one of us here today at these boards would have demanded that Reagan bring all of the organizers of that attack to justice. “
That guarantee left me out, I had the same emotional feelings everyone else did, but I trusted that the Reagan administration knew what it was doing, and history bears him out, but interesting that you locked on the emotional hook and then brought in the old Carter point.
Carter, Giuliani, and Reagan, quite a mix you are working on.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who noticed that.
History bears him out??
I think that our lack of response was an indication to the islamists that we would run when casualties were inflicted on our troops.
They should have been tougher. But they were scared to upset our Arab allies.
My point is that no one is perfect. Even Reagan made mistakes. And had to compromise in tough situations.
And I think that you are being dishonest when you say that you would not demand that those responsible for a terrorist attack like that on our military barracks today be brought to justice by any means necessary. Did you trust that the Clinton administration would know exactly what to do after the Somalis dragged our pilots through the streets of Mogadishu? Did you give him credit for handling the situation so brilliantly?
Politics can sometime blur that line between what is right and wrong. And some here suffer that from time to time.
