The flaming is an unfortunate byproduct of politics. Yes. And to most folks, flames are a sign of an emotional, partisan person who there is no point in trying to reason with.
FR at its best rises above the rabble. It's a discussion site where we win debates on the merits of the topic, on the points.
To call someone names only chases away folks who might otherwise contribute to the debate.

You remember correctly. And that was pretty damn ugly. My guess would be that more than a few, um, "paid" Freepers have signed on since then . . . especially after this presidential election cycle opened up prematurely . . . but I don't want to cast aspersions. Actually, I do, because retail politics will be the death of us all.

IMO, and I will venture to speak for many here, there are 4 issues that MUST be met in a GOP nominee: winning the war against the islamo-slime, pro-life credentials, support for the 2A, and low taxes.
Well 2 out of 4 ain't bad, in my book.
You're using the wrong book.

I think it needs to be attacked from every angle, in all three branches of government, and at the national and the state level. Full court press on every front.

“It chases away folks who may have something to contribute but don’t want to risk flames.”
I have to disagree. I was a lurker until one day I was reading a thread that really made me mad. I signed up immidentlly to voice my anger. Been here ever since.
The Thin-Skinned need not apply.

I could care less that MT threatened you - but I hate to see Jim in the midst of anything because of your disruptive tactics. M.Thatcher didn't just threaten mkjessup. She threatened Jim Robinson and Free Republic in general. She flipped out, after taking somewhat of a beating lately, and said that she would call the FBI and talk to her big shot media buddies to smear Free Republic. All because mkjessup posted an animated gif of a fictional character beating on a laser printer. M.Thatcher lost her sanity, as evidenced by her threats over something utterly inconsequential.
How about you get a damned clue about what you're talking about and give it a rest.

Sorry, pal. I will never be comfortable speaking to abortionists. Um, by 'abortionist', to me that word means a person who conducts abortions, a type of doctor.
Do you mean abortion supporter?
Do you wish FR to be a place where pro-choice folks don't feel free to chat? If so, please accept my apologies . . .

Ive been working on my anti-opus over the last few days. The lyrics are down and all I have left to do is compose the music. I posted My Opus a couple of years ago.
I just use my old opus when I feel the need to post an opus.
It sure saves time that way.

By the way, I hope the preacher didn’t misinterpret Matthew 7:3 like almost every liberal on the planet does.

So on my side of the disagreement let me say that anywhere you go for calm and reasoned debate the division will follow. I don't know, I've been on several sites where the balance was maintained for quite some time.
Unfortunately, it always does seem to end, eventually.
All things pass, I s'pose.

Rudy is a ‘baby-killing, homo-loving, gun-grabbing, cross-dressing’ etc. Those are some of his positions. If you don’t think those positions are positions, what exactly do you think positions are? How is it possible for you debate Rudy’s positions, if you refuse to recognize what his positions are?

It's a discussion site where we win debates on the merits of the topic, on the points. How do you feel about losing the abortion debate here so badly, and having had it shown to you vividly how brutal and inhumane and animalistic the practice you support really is?

“dont recall him much”
I think I tangled with him a bit when “Aberta’s Child”
posted a very good anti-roody thread. He/she/it was very pro roody. Over the top. That said, haven’t seen that nic (simmons)for a while, until the BIG opus scene.

Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.
