BEAUFORT, S.C. - A Navy F-18 Blue Angel plane crashed during an air show Saturday, according to televised reports.
Witnesses said the planes were flying in formation, and then one dropped down below the trees and apparently crashed.
“The next thing I seen was just a big black cloud of smoke,” Gerald Popp, who lives nearby, told CNN.
It was not known if the pilot survived.
At the Blue Angels command headquarters at Pensacola Naval Air Station the petty officer duty said he “had no comment at this time.”
magslinger: please add me to the NAVAIR ping list. Thx.

Usually, one of the solo pilots is the Marine.
This year, #3 Clint Harris is the Marine.
Kevin Davis was a US Naval Officer.
Kevin Davis was number 6. If that is who crashed than it is a man, not a woman.
It’s a sad day for the Angels. I watched them perform at the now closed El Toro airbase a number of times. Prayers up for all of them.
they fly right over us when they perform at Miramar...two shows per year for years...G-d bless them one and all.
Do they have alternates? Just wondering if it is possible that someone else was flying that one.
“Kevin Davis was number 6. If that is who crashed than it is a man, not a woman.”
duh
This is so sad.
I have seen the Blue Angels perform so many times. Every time my pride in the US Military increases as does my heartrate.
They perform here on Long Island every other year. The take off from Airport by my house and we get a great show all weekend.

(CNN) — A jet flying in formation with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels precision flying team crashed Saturday during an air show near Beaufort, South Carolina, authorities said.
The Beaufort County coroner’s office told CNN there is one confirmed fatality.
There had been indications the pilot may have survived the crash. “I was told [the pilot] was alive, but I can’t confirm that,” a South Carolina state trooper speaking on condition of anonymity told CNN.
There were conflicting reports about the crash site.
According to a reporter from a local television station, the plane crashed into some homes, setting them on fire.
